Conservative Futures Option Strategies
Trading futures options is often a more conservative approach than trading futures contracts, but you can go a step further and find even more conservative option strategies with option spreads.
Commodity Option Credit Spreads
Option credit spreads involve selling an option that is nearer to the money and buying an option that is further out of the money. The simultaneous opening of both positions creates what is called an option spread. Actually, you don’t have to open them at the same time, but it is recommended.
The commodities markets have been very volatile once again this year. Volatility in the markets is not something that looks to go away any time in the near future.
The issues with the happenings in MF Global have put some concerns around commodities trading. The Segregated funds that the executives of MF Global have been accused of using to bail out the company were not theirs to be traded. Segregated funds are protected just as your money in the bank should your bank go under. Violations to the Commodity Exchange Act are all crimes with use of segregated funds being at the top of the list. AAW will want to watch the outcome of this case to see if a position needs to be developed. I believe in the justice system but someone needs to be held accountable for these actions and monies returned to the farmers and commodity traders that owned the segregated funds.
Commodity trading needs to be regulated but there is a difference between regulation and stepping into private investment.
I will continue to watch this case and report to AAW any happens that we should address.
